Heatshocktranscriptionfactor(HSF),akeyregulatorintheexpressionofheatshockprotein(HSP)chaperones,isinvolvedinthemaintenanceofproteinhomeostasis.However,theimpactofHSF‐mediatedtranscriptionofeachHSPgeneonthisprocessisnotfullyunderstood.WeshowthatSaccharomycescerevisiaecellscontainingmutationsintheHSF‐bindingsequencesofchromosomalHSP90promotersexhibitvariousphenotypes,includingslowgrowth,proteotoxicstresssensitivity,andreducedchronologicallifespan.SimilarphenotypeswereobservedwhenHSF‐bindingsequencesinfivemitochondrialHSPpromotersweremutated.Therefore,HSF‐regulatedchangesinexpressionofthesechaperonegenesarenecessarytomaintaincellviabilityundervariousgrowthconditions...
