Designing Halal Supply Chain: Malaysia’s Halal Industry Scenarios

This study aims to survey current halal activities in the Malaysia halal industry. The conventional supply chain focuses on oneway interconnected processes wherein raw materials are transformed into final products, and delivered to end customers. However, due to recent halal criteria requirements received from customers, the conventional supply chain has shifted to halal supply chain management. The halal supply chain is a network of supply that gives special attention and endorsement to the products and services to ensure halal integrity throughout the network. This study used a qualitative research approach. The data was gathered through in-depth interviews with five case study halal manufacturers in Malaysia. The results suggest a streamlined framework of halal supply chains that consists of (1) Halal procurement (2) Halal manufacturing (3) Halal distribution (4) Halal logistics.
