To the Editor: We read with inter-est the letter by Sarkar et al. on newVibrio cholerae phages (1). Thedescription of new V. cholerae phagesis a welcome tool for epidemiologicstudies of this species. Our main con-cern about their work is the inaccuratepicture that is presented of the choleraepidemic in Brazil. Some of the state-ments made in the final paragraphsare in disagreement with the officialepidemiologic records and the charac-teristics of the Vibrio bacteria thatoccurred in Brazil during the 1990sepidemic (2).
