Neuromorphic Silicon neurons and synapses are very large scale integration (VLSI) circuits that emulate or mimic the electrophysiological behavior of their biological counterparts. These analog circuits can be used for the qualitative analysis of the functioning of neural circuits; and also for making intelligent systems that can perform the tasks that can be easily performed by biolological organisms but are very difficult to be performed by any traditionally engineered systems. Here we describe the analog very large-scale integration (aVLSI) realisation of integrate-and-fire neuron models and also discuss about plastic and non-plastic silicon synapses briefly.
