Conceptual Agent Based Model Simulation for the Port Nautical Services

摘要

Deep sea international ports are competitive businesses serving the transshipment needs of shipping lines linking seaborne freight with hinterland connections. The level of service is one of the important decision factors for the shipping lines’ decision on whether to call at a port. Therefore, port performance is a vital competitive component of the port functioning, while the nautical service chain at the port can be considered as a complex system. Continuous improvement in port performance is an important goal of the organizations working at the port. Due to the fact that the port system consists of a number of organizations with their own independent goals, other than normative approaches are needed. This paper presents a conceptual descriptive Agent Based Model Simulation (ABMS) for the port nautical services, by describing the port as a complex system, which takes into account operational complexity and interdependency between the parties working on the handling of deep sea ships.
