Background: Although definitive diagnosis of hypoadrenocorticism usually is made by an adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test using 250 μg/dog of synthetic ACTH (cosyntropin/tetracosactrin), increased costs have prompted a search for less-expensive diagnostic methods.
