Virtual Policing in English: A Trainee-centered Pedagogy for Web-mediated Curricular Learning and Field Training

In contrast with the traditional web-mediatedEnglish learning emphasizing curricular presentation, wepropose a Virtual Policing in English (VPIE) pedagogy----aunique and innovative application of several latest webtechnologies in scenario-based interpersonal interactions ----for the trainee-centered police English learning and fieldtraining based on Virtual Enterprise and other recentstudies. Five key components of the VPIE network includethe STARS model Curricular Learning developed withDreamweaver 8 and Ulead Video Studio 11 to strengthenexperiencing and interactions; the core function of VPIEField Training implemented with a Scenario Base through adynamic platform developed with Microsoft Visual Studio2005 asp.net(c#) or with the assistance of QQ International1.2 to sustain the participant’s interests; the Student Voiceforum and reflections to ensure the priority role of trainees;synchronous web-lecturing and asynchronous consultationTutoring to meet individual demands; and lastly a tertiaryindex quantitative Assessment system to provide a fair andstandard evaluation. Outcomes of VPIE practice areconsistent to the demanding skills of cross-disciplinarytalents and the promising Virtual Service Learningpremised on VPIE is being implemented in a wider varietyof educational settings and disciplines.
