Resurgence of infectious diseases due to forced migration: is planetary health and One Health action synergistic?

Forced migration is an ancient phenomenon and willcontinue as long as politics exists. Although it mainlyevolves from persecution, development, or exploitation,its public health consequences and e?ects go far beyondassumption. The ongoing epidemic of a rare andcontrolled disease like diphtheria in Rohingya camps,in Bangladesh (fgure), is a unique example of a publichealth disaster due to forced migration. Planetary healthand One Health have approached the issue by workingtogether as an interdisciplinary collaboration; whichmight be the best strategy in such conditions.
