GOOD PARENTS, NOT SIMPLY “NICE” PARENTS

The starting hypothesis is that parents should train or be trained for parenting. Although in crisis, the family is not disappearing, but changing into new forms. There may be a huge variety of family situations that make it difficult to imagine similar formative paths. Therefore, parenting needs to have very flexible characteristics to adjust to different typologies of family that are retraceable in the contemporary society, but also solid points for all the parental figures. The focus is on being “parent for ever”. Only the continuous formation can contribute to follow a path of maternity/paternity. Becoming parents today certainly fulfils an important social function, but it is also the moment of extremely significant psychological transition for adults. Some recent socio-economic transformations have modified the conditions of parenthood that were valid in the not too distant past.
