Creating open education resources for teaching and community development through action research: the dairy value chain agribusiness module

TosupportthegrowthofthedairysectorofUganda#8217;sagriculturalindustry,theAgShareprogramwasdevelopedtocreateopeneducationresources(OER)forteachingandcommunitydevelopment.TheAgShareapproachiscenteredonthedevelopmentofaninformationloopbetweenacademiaanddairyvaluechainstakeholders,usinggraduatestudentsasagentsofchangetoconductactionresearchthatprovidesinformationandevidenced-basedtrainingmaterialstoempowerdairyvaluechainstakeholders,andcontinuouslyupdatesandimproveseducationalmaterialsattheuniversitylevel.Toachievethis,datacollectedthroughactionresearchwereusedinpartialfulfillmentofaMaster#8217;sofScienceinLivestockDevelopment,PlanningandManagement,andaMaster#8217;sinAgribusinessandManagementbyparticipatingstudents.AnAgribusinessOERmodulewasalsodevelopedbasedoncomponentsinmarketing,productdevelopment,economicsofon-farmmilkprocessing,pricing,andagribusinessmanagement.TheOERmodulewasincorporatedintoanexistinggraduatelevelcourseatMakerereUniversity.
