Abstract:Objective To investigate the health education based on knowledge-attitude-practice model for elderly patients with intravenous infusion by indwelling trocar. Methods 〓A total of 832 elderly patients with intravenous infusion by indwelling trocar were assigned to the observation group(n=416)and the control group(n=416). The control group received routine health education on intravenous infusion, and the health education based on knowledge-attitude-practice model was carried out in the observation group. The knowledge level of patients on intravenous infusion with indwelling trocar was assessed, and the incidence of infusion extravasation was compared between two groups. Results 〓Patients in the observation group were more knowledgeable about the intravenous infusion by indwelling trocar compared with those in the control group(P0.01). The incidence of infusion extravasation was 0.48%(2/416)in the observation group and was 2.40%(10/416)in the control group, with a significant difference(P0.05). Conclusion Health education based on knowledge-attitude-practice model is potentially effective to reduce the risk of infusion extravasation in elderly patients with intravenous infusion by indwelling trocar.
