Interview: Aspects of modern breast cancer management: a surgeon’s tale

Michael Gnant speaks to Marco De Ambrogi, Commissioning Editor: Michael Gnant is Full Professor of Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, where he also serves as President of the Austrian Breast and Colorectal Cancer Study Group. His medical career began in 1988 when he graduated in medicine in Vienna. He then specialized in surgery and surgical oncology, working as a Visiting Scientist at the National Cancer Institute, NIH (MD, USA), then as a Full Professor at the Medical University of Vienna, where he also heads the Breast Health Center. His achievements include co-leading the Comprehensive Cancer Center Vienna and serving on the famous St. Gallen Consensus Panel for Early Breast Cancer since 2007, as well as being elected to the European Academy of Science and Arts in 2009. Among other honors, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
