To meet this objective the Coast Guard published its Logistics Doctrine in 2001 to codify its positions and assertions regarding logistics, this doctrine stands today. In Coast Guard doctrine, logistics encompasses all the activities necessary to deliver capabilities including having the people, systems, support and policy necessary to conduct missions. Logistics processes are complex and interconnected, with ripple effects throughout the organization. The flow of capabilities to the field cannot be adjusted easily like the flow of water from a tap.
