摘要

The introductory operations management course presents a number of concepts and frameworks that can be used to describe, analyze, and improve business processes. As part of our courses, we develop learning opportunities that encourage students to apply their knowledge. One of the challenges of teaching undergraduate courses in operations management is that traditional students often have limited practical work experience. Hence, it is difficult for these students to translate the conceptual knowledge from their textbook into a concrete plan of action that could be applied to a "real" business situation such as that presented by the case method, commonly used to encourage application of knowledge. Discussion and creativity can be stifled when students are not comfortable with the context of the discussion.
