It's all about the blues

Over 100 years ago, local cheese makers had a competition in a tent as part of the Nantwich and South Cheshire show. Now the International Cheese Awards tent has an area of 80,000 square metres and this year 4,286 cheeses were tasted by 196 judges... in the same field. In the past, judges and visitors had to trudge through 'squelchy' mud caused by seasonal cloudbursts, until flooring was installed. Some years cheese sweated under the rare Cheshire sun before air conditioning and chilled cabinets filled the space. Tuesday 30 July is trade and judging day; on Wednesday the whole Nantwich show is open to the public, all eager to taste and buy cheese and enjoy celebrity chefs' cheesy recipes and banter.
