Companies are selling what they call vegan cheese in Germany, prompting the Dairy Industry Association (MIV) in Berlin to act. "In Europe there is no vegan cheese," says Eckhard Heuser, general manager at MIV. "Vegans are against any kind of animal products and should kindly not try to use our milk names." Some trading companies offer vegan products with descriptions that are not permitted. "Cheese names or designations on milk products are protected and that's good," is the opinion of the MIV. "Where it says milk, milk must be included, and not a vegetarian substitute," says Heuser.
