Portland Keynote Address Highlighted OSU Programs and Educational Changes that are Facing Universities

Higher education is changing, the traditional boundaries between disciplines are breaking down, and today's university students have different expectations than earlier generations. These were some of the points Dr. Paul Risser, president of Oregon State University, shared with AACE International members during his 2002 Keynote Address at the opening of the 46th Annual Meeting in Portland. Risscr began with an official welcome to what he called, "the city that works." He said in the 1970s, Portland officials enacted land-use rules that established urban growth boundaries. Noting that these rules were not enacted without controversy, he said the effect has been to make growth occur densely instead of allowing it to spread out all over the plaec. "I'm glad you are here," Risser told AACE members.
