Speedy looks at lessons learned in tough market

"We are more optimistic now having made the tough decisions early on," says Speedy managing director UK Asset Services David Graham. "We have consolidated. Where we used to have 5,000 sq ft depots we now have 35,000 sq ft superstores.And some closed depots have reopened," he adds. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't expect firms to be spending large sums renewing fleets in the current climate. "I don't see people going out and buying plant rather than hiring," he says. "Look at the age of the fleets out there. "People are trying to reduce capital expenditure so we will see more hiring. But getting the age of fleets back down again is a real challenge."
