'Real engineering' is what this country needs

Labour leader Ed Miliband's nod to "real engineering" as one of the foundations of Britain's future this week was one thing, but the industry really needs to convince those in power now. While the Conservatives prepare for their party conference next week, the industry needs to convey its simple, singular message: new infrastructure is the answer to everything. Or, at least, new infrastructure could solve a good few of Britain's problems in just a few steps (news, pages 2 and 3). Major infrastructure projects can stimulate growth and employment, not to mention lift a few spirits, while making the country easier to do business in.
