Bright Future or Disaster for German Industrial Plant Engineering Companies? Realisation of Industrial Projects for Mining, Beneficiation and Metallurgical Plant Building in Middle East Countries and the Far East

The German industrial plant building industry has always been and hopes always to be highly depending on exports to other industrialized nations and to developing countries. In case of mining and beneficiation as well as metallurgical plant building, Germany is the biggest exporter world-wide, followed by Austria after the recent merger of Voest-Alpine with Kvaerner Metals. This development has been the result of qualified management, innovative development and implementation of new technologies and equipment by motivated employees, high standard of manufacturing, as well as planning and execution of projects in a professional manner. This was recognized by customers, and the label "Made in Germany" became the entry card to international success. This publication will provide a summary of the steps to be taken in implementing and successful finalization of a project, but at the same time raises the question of the current value of "Made in Germany" and the capability of German plant builders not only to supply equipment once, but also to maintain customers in the future, too. Some attention will also be given to the required qualifications of professional personnel involved in the implementation of projects specifically during erection, commissioning and technical assistance. Some useful hints as to the professional and human prerequisites for personnel delegated abroad are also given.
