35-HOUR WEEK URGED

Laing O'Rourke chairman and chief executive Ray O'Rourke has called for a 35-hour working week in the UK construction industry. He said the profession must be made more inviting to attract young people. "I don't think we have enough capable people in the industry," said Mr O'Rourke. "We have to look at the German model and move to 35-hour weeks because things are not sustainable at the moment" He also called for a more collaborative approach to procurement to move the Industry away from a blame culture.
