The government's decision to extend the Energy Companies Obligation could put thousands of jobs at risk, it was claimed this week. The Department of Energy and Climate Change said it would extend the timeframe for ECO from two years to four and reduce the scheme's Carbon Emissions Reduction Obligation by 33 per cent up to 2017. Energy suppliers are now required to make only 100,000 solid-wall insulation installations in four years, despite 2012 seeing 80,000 installations alone. Association for the Conservation of Energy director Andrew Warren said this was a result of "very strong pressure from the energy companies, who put the gun to the government's head and said 'we won't agree to do anything unless you cut back on ECO'.
