Look at the top 20 or so companies in this year's CE-100 ranking of Europe's largest construction companies, and the most striking thing is how stable their positions have been compared to last year's list. There has been no change among the top six over the last 12 months, and only one company in the top 20 - Laing O'Rourke - has moved more than a single place up or down since the 2013 edition. For big changes in positions you have to look further down the table where UK companies like Taylor Wimpey, Interserve and Persimmon have made double digit gains inside the top 50, along with the likes of Belgian dredging group DEME and Russia's largest contractor, Glavstory. Further down the table there are bigger gains, in positions where it takes a relatively small increase in revenues to leap up lots of places.
