Two killed in temporary footbridge collapse

Two people were killed after a temporary pedestrian footbridge over the M1 motorway in the Sandton suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa collapsed around 3.40 pm on October 14. Several other people were injured. The structure - described as being made of scaffolding and formwork - was part of a project being undertaken by contractor Murray & Roberts' Infrastructure & Building business. Several investigations are underway into the cause of the collapse, including an internal investigation by Murray & Roberts.
