Concrete progress as Chinese dam construction continues apace

Since April 2009, construction teams from SinoHydro and CGGC have been hard at work constructing two 6930MW underground power stations on each side of the Jinsha River (further downstream, at a confluence with the Min River, it becomes the Yangtze River).rnIn order to capture sufficient water to feed what will become the world's second-largest hydropower project, a 285m-high double-curvature thin arch dam is being constructed. Other major appurtenant works include a tail-water dam with a large tail-pond, 18 tailraces, which will eventually converge, linking up with six 14m-wide, 19m-high river diversion tunnels.
