It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Sixth International Symposium on Highly-Efficient Accelerators and Reconfigurable Technologies (HEART). Cost-effective accelerators, such as high-end Field-Programmable Gate Arrays, general-purpose Graphics Processing Units, heterogeneous multi-core processors, and other specialized architectures, have become a key component in high-performance computing both for numerical and non-numerical application fields including embedded systems. The goal of this symposium is to establish a forum for reporting state-of-the-art research on high-performance efficient computing with such cost-effective accelerators. The symposium was first affiliated with the ACM International Conference on Supercomputing in 2010 as a workshop, and became an independent workshop in 2011 when it was held at Imperial College London and in 2012 when it was held in Okinawa, Japan. In 2013 HEART was held in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK as a symposium and so it continued last year in Sendai (the beautiful city of greens), Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and this year in Boston, its first time in North America. Next year we are thrilled that HEART will be held in Hong Kong under the able direction of Hayden Kwok-Hay So. As HEART 2016 will be held adjoining the Croucher Summer Course on Performance-Aware Programming using Application Accelerators (PAPAA), both hosted by the University of Hong Kong, we are particularly looking forward to another excellent edition.
