The Contours of Feminist Media Studies

Console-ing Passions (CP) is the international conference on television, video, audio, new media, and feminism. It was founded in 1989 by a group of feminist media scholars and artists looking to create a space to present work and foster scholarship on issues of television, culture, and identity, with an emphasis on gender and sexuality. The original board included, and the current board also includes, some of the most influential feminist scholars in media studies. The first Console-ing Passions conference was held at the University of Iowa in 1992. Since then, there have been 15 Console-ing Passions conferences, including the 20th anniversary celebration in Boston in 2012.
