Lack of training, unroadworthy vehicle and walk-around failures at fatal accident firm

A truck that crashed on the A9 in Stirlingshire, killing a passenger, was not roadworthy, a fatal accident inquiry (FAI) was told. An inquiry at Stirling Sheriff Court was told that John Moody, 60, a fabricator at Falburn Engineering, was in a Mitsubishi Canter being driven by a colleague, James Short, in June 2012 when it lost control as it approached the Greencornhills roundabout at Bannockburn at about 8am. Short told the inquiry he was braking and changing down gears on approach to the roundabout in heavy rain when the lorry "kicked out". He said the wheels locked and it immediately veered violently to the right across the opposite carriageway.
