Gail Gray MCIWM, environment officer, Environment Agency I love my job and have confidence in my competence but I wanted formal recognition of both my personal and professional credibility. I felt that becoming a Chartered Waste Manager would provide this, as the title is recognised, industry wide, as belonging to someone who has proven technical competence in their own role, in-depth knowledge of the wider waste "world" and commitment to maintain high standards in both. Becoming a much more resource efficient society is essential to improving the environment, something I value highly and which I want to play a part in. I strongly believed that gaining those five letters (MCIWM) after my name will open up that opportunity.
