Massachusetts Facility to Install $500-Million Cooling Towers

As part of a legal settlement announced in December between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (epa) and a unit of Dominion, an energy provider based in Richmond, Virginia, the company has agreed to install a water-saving cooling system at its Brayton Point Power Station, in Somerset, Massachusetts. The system is expected to cost $500 million. Located on the shores of Mount Hope Bay, the facility is New England's largest fossil-fuel-burning power plant, supplying 16 percent of the electricity used in Massachusetts and 8 percent of New England's needs, according to Dominion.
