A17-monthlong rehabilita-tion of the Ford's Theatre Na-tional Historic Site-four adjoining buildings in Washington, D.C., the most famous being the theater in which President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in April 1865-included strengthening the foundations of these 19th-century structures, adding an elevator to the complex for the first time, and installing new structural supports for the improved mechanical systems in the theater's attic and for a modern stage rigging system for theatrical productions. The $13.5-million project was completed in February, in time for the theater to reopen for the bicentennial celebration of Lincoln's birth. The theater had been closed since August 2007 for the rehabilitation.
