The Future Really Is in Good Hands

TIns issue includes an article entitled "Moving Forward," a follow-up to two articles included in the November/December 2002 issue, the issue devoted to celebrating the 150th anniversary of ASCE and published under the banner Celebrating the Greatest Profession. The hrst article— "Leaders in Training"—focused on young members of ASCE who shared their outlook on the field as well as their individual goals. The second article—"The Future Is in Good Hands"— focused on engineering students who shared what they were learning and what they hoped to practice after graduation. We recently got in touch with several of the subjects of both articles to see how they view the profession and their work today. The result of these interviews is Jenny Jones's article "Moving Forward," which begins on page 54. The stories that unfold in the article serve as excellent examples of the acronym "MOVE" (momentum, opportunity, vision, and engagement), which serves as the basis of my goals as president of ASCE.
