Pitting morality against the harms of market freedom

Millions of Americans today work at jobs that do not pay them enough to make a living. Most of these jobs are in the booming (at least until 2008) retail and services sectors-employers include call centers, fast food chains, department stores, cleaning-service businesses and so on-and are being filled increasingly by women, lone parents, people of color and migrants.
