China's Petrochemical Development Programme in 1996-2000

By the end of 1995 China had possessed a crude processing capacity of 210m t/a (equivalent to 4.2m bbl/d) and capacities of ethylene 2.94m t/a, synthetic resins 5.83m t/a, synthetic rubbers 510000 t/a, raw materials of synthetic fibres 2.34m t/a and alkylbenzene 165000 t/a. A number of grass — roots projects were completed and onstream in 1996. It is forecast that the crude runs for the whole year of 1996 will exceed 140m tons, ethylene output is expected to stand at 3m tons. The capacities and outputs of China Petrochemical Corporation will account for around 80% of the national total.
