Reduction of Flammable Inventory: Use of Kanban in Research Settings

Unnecessary inventory is both wasteful and asafety risk. The Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research andEducation in Singapore reviewed its flammable materialsinventory, eliminated the unused excess inventory, and, tomaintain the reduction and prevent a reaccumulation ofunnecessary inventory, put into place a Kanban system. Theefficacy of this method is documented as well as lessons learnedfrom both the problems caused by excess unused inventory andthe reasons that lead to the accumulation in the first place.
