This is an all-makes tip we came across recently. Basically the car had a 'heavy' throttle; in fact you had to press it like mad for anything to happen. The cause wasn't hard to find; the throttle cable showed signs of partial seizure, and renewing same restored normal action at the pedal.rnExcept that this wasn't a total cure; why had the cable failed? The answer was that the main earth strap running between the engine and body had become damaged and corroded; so much so that it couldn't carry the full power load from the starter motor. Thus, whenever the starterrnoperated, some power had to find another means of getting from the motor that's mounted on the engine, to the battery that's mounted on the body. And in most cases, the route used will be the throttle cable. This then overheats, resulting in seizure.rnIncidentally, this particular car also had slightly lazy' cruise control - ie. it took a little while to pick ip speed when the 'resume' function was operated. The reason, of course, was that it took more effort for the system to move a partially seized throttle cable than it would to move a free one.
