On a long weekend run back from a family visit, the owner of this 1998 Peugeot 406 was alarmed to see the temperature gauge slowly rising. Stopping for a refreshment break, he then checked the coolant level to find it had dropped dramatically.rnTopping up before completing his journey, he brought the car in the next day. A quick pressure check showed that the coolant was leaking from behind the timing beltrncover. Our first thoughts were that the water pump had failed, but on removing the timing belt cover, we discovered that the cause of the leak was actually a corroded core plug in the end of the cylinder head.
