Changing a timing belt is not a job that should be put off. Recently, we have worked on two vehicles that illustrate the dangers of procrastination. The first was a Rover 800 which came in on the Thursday before Easter for a service. Noting the mileage, we advised the owner that the vehicle was due for a cambelt change. We had no space to do it that day, so the owner booked it in for the Tuesday after Easter. Unfortunately, the belt broke over the Easter holiday. The other vehicle was a Ford Escort CVH, which the owner had booked in for the camshaft belt to be changed - the driver was actually en route to the workshop when the unthinkable happened.
