"Who was H.R. Hodgkinson?" asked Hugh McKnight in our history feature in the July issue ofrnCanal Boat. And as a result of our article, we now have some fascinating answers to that question.rnWe already knew he was responsible for a remarkable collection of 83 sepia prints of midland waterways in the early years of the 20th Century - which were the subject of the article. We also knew he was a keen amateur historian who contributed articles to specialist archaeological publications. He appears to have been well-off enough to have owned an early motor car, at one time he lived in Hampton Lovatt near Droitwich, and in 1948 he was an early member of The Inland Waterways Association. Other than that, Hugh had been unable to unearth little more about Mr Hodgkinson.
