Trying to be a DIY queen can be a pretty relentless regime, but I only have myself to blame. When I started out I knew a little about engines, but nothing about mitred joints, mastic and mounting boxes (the latter I presumed was used in horse-riding).rnUnfortunately my engine was fine, it was the rest of the boat that needed my practical touch. Being aware that my knowledge of DIY might be lacking in one or two areas, I told myself at the beginning I would do everything three times: the first time to learn about the tools, the materials and what works in the space available; the second to build templates from salvaged plywood and the third would be the final product in good quality wood.
