The generation of 20-somethings new to narrow-boating will, like those before them, be attracted by the calm of our canals, the wildlife and the beautiful countryside beyond the banks. But for some of them, another spur will sit in childhood memories: the Rosie and Jim TV programmes and books in which the owner of a narrowboat and two ragdolls aboard travel Midlands waterways.
