A newly-created volunteer group is taking root around the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Saltaire, aiming to enhance the UNESCO World Heritage site.Saltaire Towpath Taskforce, set up by waterways and wellbeing charity Canal & River Trust in September, is already working at a variety of locations between Bingley and Shipley, undertaking all sorts of tasks to enhance the canal environment. Now, they are embarking on an ambitious project to create a series of canal-side gardens along a four-mile stretch over the next three years. Incorporating nature habitats, sculptures, murals and interpretation boards, the gardens will become home to wildlife and a great place for boaters, walkers, cyclists and runners to stop and enjoy nature on their travels.
