The Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway ran its last buses on 19 April, ending over 160 years of service to the people of Londonderry and north Co. Donegal. The cross-border company, which ceased operating trains in 1953, had been through many crises but was finally sunk by a winding up petition from HM Revenue & Customs, the UK tax authority. Staff were advised on 11 April that a liquidator had been appointed and consequently they were now creditors of the company.
