The earlier surge in continuous ship unloader (CSU) orders over the past few years was mainly the result of the construction of coal-fired thermal power stations. Public bodies and large utilities tend to be the main users of CSUs, while stevedores and dedicated cargo handling terminals are more likely, though not always, to opt for grab crane discharge. A recent contract for a single CSU underlines this division, with Tenova Takraf being awarded a major turnkey contract by Secretaria Da Infrae-strutura (Seinfra) - Governo Do Esta-do Do Ceara, for a CSU to discharge iron ore at the port of Pecem in Brazil. The machine will have a nominal capacity of 2,400 t/hr and will be able to handle vessels up to 125,000 dwt.
