CASE STUDY: SPEED IS KEY FOR RETIREMENT VILLAGE

The ExtraCare retirement village in Shenley Wood, Milton Keynes will be the fourth project on which Willmott Dixon Homes has used the KBS, with Kingspan designing, manufacturing and installing the steel frame, insulated wall panels and floor cassettes. Designed by architect Nicol Thomas, phase one of the scheme comprises 184 apartments in two blocks and a one-storey community building, which will include a gym, IT suite, woodwork shop and winter garden. Kingspan is building the first of two housing blocks, about 17,300m', using Kingframe KBS. The one-storey community building will have a hot-rolled steel frame because of large open spans. This made it ideal for the use of Kingframe AFS (see overleaf), also installed by Kingspan. The contract value is about ￡2m.
