Gettysburg Retirement Village/Center, Feasibility Study

The study's purpose was to determine if it was feasible to develop a retirement village/center in Gettysburg, South Dakota. It would serve the five-county upper Missouri River region including the counties of Campbell, Faulk, Potter, Sully, and Walworth. A mail questionnaire to residents over age 55 in these five counties found a sufficient number of interested individuals to merit the serious consideration of building the complex. The remainder of the study focused on the number of residential units needed, the likely cost of the complex, and the impact of the retirement complex on the City of Gettysburg, particularly in health services. A literature search of books and periodicals on retirement issues, elderly housing projects, and retirement centers is included in the report.
