North-west construction output rising at 10 times UK average

The North-west has seen construction boom over the last year, new figures show. According to the Office for National Statistics, total construction output across the region was more than £4.6bn in the three months to August, up 15% compared with the same period last year. Overall construction output in the UK for the period rose only 1.5%, meaning the region's increase was 10 times the national average. The value of new housing work in the North-west increased by £386m in the three months to August compared with the same period the year before. Output for new infrastructure projects in the North-west has also risen during this period. Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry said: "It's wonderful to see how the Northern Powerhouse is driving investment in the North-west and helping grow the construction industry to the tune of over £600m. Anyone visiting the North-west can see the huge number of construction projects under way, and these figures show just how valuable they are. This construction boom is helping build new homes, new infrastructure and a stronger economy in the region."
