What got you started? At 18,1 joined atrip to the Mackintosh School of Art It was like being in a film. Who was your most inspiring tutor? I had a few: Leon van Schaik, Ranulph Glanville, Christine Hawley, and Peter Cook, who made me see that architecture is a cultural phenomenon - all-encompassing and joyful. What architect have you learnt most from? In my early years, Eisaku Ushida, an intuitive designer with great discipline. More recently, Geoff Mann, with whom I am forging a collaboration. Which living architect do you most admire? Valerio Olgiati. His work has a spiritual quality that transcends the nuts and bolts of building. What "great" architecture leaves you cold? The work of Tadao Ando. It feels very static and repetitive.
