PDX~® fluid handling innovation for mashing and wort boiling

Independent research undertaken by Prof Richard Sharpe and Gary Freeman of Brewing Research International (BRi) has shown that the innovative PDX~® fluid processing system from Pursuit Dynamics has the potential to make major improvements to the process efficiency for mashing and wort boiling, delivering substantial savings in energy costs and reducing processing times, simplifying cleaning and maintenance and reducing the risk of product contamination. The researchers were so impressed with the PDX equipment, says Kester Scrope of Pursuit Dynamics, that they titled their report "Mashing and Wort Boiling-Breaking the Paradigm." BRi is developing a new, improved brewhouse process sequence that in volves changing the way it mixes, homogenises and heats the mash, boils the wort, heats the CIP water and pasteurises the beer. Much of the work with the PDX~® system took place on BRi's pilot plant, with other trials undertaken in a UK brewery production installation. One of the advantages of the PDX system is that it is truly scalable, with examples of different-sized systems in use within the food industry.
