Alan Ridealgh The winter barley harvest in England began around the 12th July, at least a week ahead of normal. This was no surprise to anyone, as crops had looked ready for some time, even taking into account the old adage to impatient farmers - "when you think the crop is ripe, go on holiday for two weeks!"
